Wrestlemania 27 Review: Cena Sucks; Miz Rules, Rock Steals Show

Wrestlemania 27 Review: It really came down to the two big matches. The best match of the evening was The Undertaker vs Triple H. The in-ring drama made it so it was like an old western shootout where both cowboys die at the end. But thankfully The Undertaker made HHH tap out. Both men predictably were brutal and kicked out of each other’s finishing maneuvers multiple times. This was not as good as Undertaker vs Shawn Michaels I or II, but still entertaining.

On the other hand, the main event between World Champion The Miz and challenger John Cena was ruined by the fans once again. The fans stomped all over John Cena on a PPV. I thought Cena was finally gaining more support in recent months, but when push came to shove, the fans cheered The Miz over him.

wrestlemania 27

Let me back up a bit. Dwayne Johnson was just doing brief comedy skits during WrestleMania 27, and wasn’t mentioned when the main event started. I thought he would have a bigger role. So that was a let down.

The Miz is a straight heel- he’s cocky, arrogant, has a MTV background, and cheats to win. He had illegally won the belt and just barely survived his matches to retain the title, kinda like The Honky Tonk Man, but with better skills.

Every PPV I saw, the fans boo John Cena. It’s the men, yes, but male voices are louder than females and kids. The men wind up pissing all over Cena’s big events. However since Cena has really been working on his reputation and even acknowledged this phenomena, I figured he would catch a break in this match and get cheered.

I figured that since The Rock was out of the picture and The Miz is a villain, the fans wanted to see John Cena win the belt back. THE GOOD GUY HAS ALWAYS WON THE WRESTLEMANIA MAIN EVENT. There was a ZERO PERCENT CHANCE The Miz walks home with the belt.

So, to prevent the fans from booing John Cena, Vince McMahon had an awesome DMX voice over showing how hard John Cena works and how spiritual he is. Vince hired an all-black Atlanta gospel choir to sing Cena’s theme song. It was very moving. McMahon figured that the Southern Atlanta folks at Wrestlemania would appreciate the God angle. You can’t boo God, right? Unfortunately, it was at the wrong place and the wrong time- most of the Georgia rasslin’ fans were WHITE and didn’t want to listen to DMX or gospel songs supporting Cena [Just telling it like it is, okay?]

Sure enough as soon as the choir stopped, the fans boo’ed them. How embarrassing. Out comes Cena, and I see that the fans took The Miz’s side. Holy cow.

The match itself is OK, I guess. The fans were once again not cooperating with Cena’s push. Cena is a babyface and this was his revenge match, and the fans spit all over it. They totally supported The Miz.

Again, Cena has been in eight WrestleManias and he’s used to it, but I have to think that Vince McMahon may be getting tired of pushing Cena down our throats at this point. Or not. Vince is stubborn. Cena was the first superstar that we didn’t accept as champion.

Things got better at the end, when Cena did a running punch on The Miz on the outside. And then he speared him. And then the unthinkable happened: the referee counted them both out and ended it as a draw. The fans were dead silent; Wrestlemanias don’t end in draws; they end with the babyface celebrating with the title.

However, when the ring announcer said that The Miz keeps the title on a draw, the fans actually cheered. That’s how bad the state of the WWE is, with Cena as the top draw.

BUT WAIT, The Rock’s music hits. He gives a fantastic speech. He restarts the match with no DQ and no countout so the fans can see a winner. Before leaving the ring, he gets his measure of revenge by laying the smackdown on John Cena’s candy ass before he leaves the ring.

The Miz pins him, and retains his title!

And the fans go crazy and cheer.

Of course, The Rock re-enters the ring and beats up The Miz to the fans joy.

In other words, The Rock stole the show and the thunder of The Miz and totally humiliated John Cena in the process.

And that’s what the fans wanted to see.

Cena’s a trooper and went along with it. Hulk Hogan would never do that, and the fact is Hogan was never booed like that during his original WWF runs. When Hogan fought Roddy Piper, Paul Ordorff, Andre the Giant, and even another babyface in the Ultimate Warrior, he was never BOO’ED by the fans.

John Cena truly does suck.

The Rock was too popular here. Is it a one-shot nostalgia act or is Vince booking a match between them? I doubt The Rock would want to turn on Cena and job to him to give him the huge rub, but that would be the only fair thing to do. The problem with that is even if The Rock turned on Cena real bad and cursed out the fans and pushed his Hollywood nonsense they would still cheer him and boo Cena if they had a match.

With The Undertaker going 19-0 at Wrestlemanias, the dream match would be Undertaker vs John Cena for the WWE title next year, but the fans might kill Cena if he broke the streak.

WWE is screwed with their top babyface.

No wonder old timers like me can’t take much of this stuff and would rather watch old matches.

Undertaker vs. triple h match happened before, it makes me mad they are just going to compete wrestlemania time.
Miz vs Cena, then rock steals the show, that was a big waste, why didn’t rock just let cena pin miz then beat the shit out of him, WWE needs to stop fucking over people, by wasting their money, it looks like TNA is becoming the better show

I hate you DailySkew, I hate the miz with a passion and was cheering for john cena the entire time, the rocks an asshole!! made himself look like a hero for ressurecting the match and then made himself look like a deadbeat for beating up the guy who’s now the most popular guy in the wwe. Rock just cant handle that his time is up and cena’s time is now.

This show makes me sick. Not just because of the dissappointing main event or the retarded descision to have the WHC match open the show, but why the hell was Bryan/Sheamus taken off the card?! Especially when they have (a) a stupid segment with Edge and Christian smashing Del Rio’s car (b) the usual backstage crap with The Rock, Teddy Long and Snoop (c) the entrances for guys like HHH, MIZ and Cena were way too long (I get its Wrestlemania and it has to be “special” but come on) (d) a pointless eight man tag (e) half an hour of garbage that was the atrocity of Cole vs Lawler. Time constraints my ass wwe

To answer your question, it was bad booking that destroyed BOTH WM27 and Cena’s character. I mean, come on, a title match to open the show?? Really?? And to think that the superstar pushed to win the Royal Rumble was in there? Jeez!!!

And the main event. It as awful NOT because of Cena (I’ll get to him in a little bit), but mainly because of how things turned out. It was bad enough that the Lawler-Cole’s finish was reversed, and the Levesque-Calaway’s dramatic aftermath lasted for 10 frigging minutes…but to end the match on a double count-out???

Second point about the main event: The Rock did not live up to the hype. I mean, he was booked to be a host, but he just appeared three times during the show, damn it. And, his screwing of Cena wasn’t convincing enough. On a night when FINISHERS DID NOT MATTER, Cena got finished by a single Rock Bottom? Come on…

Now, about Cena. I actually pity the guy. He busts his ass every single week on Raw, and did the same thing on the title match. His football four-point stance then a frantic rush towards The Miz actually made me gain respect for him. The fans, the SAME fans who cheered for him on his first push/es from 2003 to 2005 has turned their backs on him. It’s such a disgrace. I mean, I’m not a fan of his, hell I don’t even care about him at all. Now the fans are just, maybe, fed up with him? Or just silly at the least, or stupid at worst? I mean, if you don’t wanna watch the guy, just put up, shut up, watch TNA, or forget pro wrestling and watch the real thing instead.

All in all, the epic fail that was WrestleMania 27 could have been fixed by a responsible booking, and a mindful push of younger stars like Sheamus and Daniel Bryan, which by the way were PUSHED OFF THE CARD. This makes me question the willingness of the WWE to improve its product or stay stagnant as it enjoys the stranglehold over the pro wrestling audience WHILE WE ARE WAITING FOR TNA TO GET OVER THE HUMP AND CHALLENGE THE WWE or just sink just like WCW did.

A bad day for Pro Wrestling, WrestleMania 27 was.

Hey thanks for bringing up the other matches.
When I tuned in I thought I MISSED a match because Edge opened the card. I assume they did that because they did not want to confuse casual fans about the two world titles. Remember Dwayne Johnson was supposed to bring back the old and casual fans. But it was real weird leading off with it, and I agree it should not have been.

I agree Lawler-Cole should not have been reversed. We paid to see a clean victory, similar to when Vince McMahon jobs out at WrestleMania to end a feud.

I agree Undertaker/HHH featured too much selling at the end. It killed the mood. Undertaker had to sell that he was dead so HHH jobbed clean. Pretty lame and the new theme song got tired.

I pity Cena, too- he’s a nice guy in real life, but the connection as champ is not there, and he should stop being forced as the top babyface.

Finally, I was shocked that Nexus/Core were downgraded.

I completely agree with you in all that u said. As I was listening to that beautiful n moving choir group, i said to my friends man everyones white there and then the booing begain to ge tlouder when I said that. I was shaking y head and felt bad for the choir group who did an awesome job. Secondly that was the lamest ending to a wrestlemanina main event EVER! I thought Cena wud atleast win and then Rock would gethis revenge. Miz even headlining wrestlemaina as champ makes us as u say ol timers PUKKE…. I dont know what Vince n others with him are thinking man. But its losing us old time loyals by the thousands weekly

Yes, I was holding my breath when the choir was almost done, hoping for a polite applause. Instead it was boo’s and it seemed to rile up the fans against Cena.

Vince McMahon really dropped the ball on the rap video and the choir with the demographics.

For the first time in history there was a surprise ending to WrestleMania, but it sucks it was The Miz winning and a nostalgia act (The Rock) left alone in the ring to the cheers in 2011.

This was kinda similar (but not the same) to when Yokuzuna beat Brett Hart and then Hulk Hogan ran out and pinned Yoko for the WWE title at WrestleMania 9. It shows a defeat on Vince McMahon’s part to go with the old superstar veteran over the hard working top babyface.

Seriously- I half expected The Rock to pin The Miz and hold the belt at the end.

FUCK YOU!! John Cena is a great performer and a great guy you are just a sorry piece of shit who needs to learn who to root for. John Cena is the WWE. Get used to it. People like you make me sick to my fucking stomach. Every time I see someone boo Cena I wanna get in their face and Fuck them up. John Cena is better then The Rock ever was. And he loves the WWE loves the fans yes even you and he will do this no matter what, so SHUT THE FUCK UP!

If Cena wasn’t pushed so hard all these years and treated like a “made man” us old timers would have liked his underdog status. But starting off like an Eminem clone and getting the title so quick back in the day was not cool.

It’s disgraceful for fans to boo a guy who works so hard. He just doesn’t have a connection with male fans.

It’s not his fault, it was the way he was pushed as The Franchise. The Rock earned his cheers when he was languishing as a bad guy in the Nation of Domination after he was boo’ed as a babyface 2nd generation star.

Hey JABRONI,….KNOW YOUR ROLE AND SHUT YOUR MOUTH!!!

To be frank,I liked cena in the beginning, but the sight of him with the belt makes me sick today. He never looses cleanly,is always the gud guy.Its the creative team that turned him from a loveable character to shitty one dimensional champ(..But he’s got no option he’s just doin d work he is asked to…no disrespect…got respect 4 the guy bcoz he works hard)

And Cena is nowhere compared to the rock,See rock was pushed for the first 2 years as babyface and ppl grew sick of him $ started chanting “rocky sux!!”&”die, rocky, die”…Then they turned him heel and finally he got over the crowds..The rest is history…Cena never ever drew a response from the crowd like the rock did during the attitude era….At that time wwf was fighting wwe for ratings and it was stonecold and rock who gave wwf the edge..now wwe has no competition(tna<<<wwe)…and they dont care for the crowds anymore..all they want is to sell their fraky little cena toys to children…

CENA,the champ gimmick suxxx big time…

its time they give him a heel turn…and see ppl will start liking him again..
