Brian Cashman Confirms Andy Pettitte Retirement

Please use the manager’s voice from the movie OFFICE SPACE when reading Brian Cashman’s words in regards to the DailySkew’s Andy Pettitte 70% Retired story.

“We’re moving forward as he requested. He’s not in it. He’s told me not to rely on him, so I’m focusing on what he’s told us.”

And what do the Stat Heads think about Andy Pettitte not being on the 2011 Yankees starting rotation:

“it’s exactly what I want Cashman saying right now. And *doing* right now.
Pettitte coming back obviously puts the team in a much better situation, but the team does have a slew of young promising arms that could hold down the front half of the season until a veteran is likely available through a salary relief type trade later in the year.”

“They could probably get Blanton from the Phils easily enough, and take someone else’s overpaid starter with upside and they’re good to go. I’m sure they can get Dempster or Wandy or Livan or something without giving up too much.”

“I still think Joba could be a better than average starter but I guess that boat has sailed.”

“I’d rather roll the dice with youth (at least to begin with) than overpay in a panic trade for a proven mediocrity …”

I'm with OR on this one. You have to be much more of an athlete to play basketball than you do baseball. In baseball you are stationary 90% of the time and you really don't do all that much. You have to be in top physical shape to play basketball. There also several more skills involved in basketball than in baseball. But I'm not sure why you hate basketball so much farley. It's MUCH more exciting to watch than boring ol' baseball.

It's like bizarro-Howard debate, this time with the stat-heads defending his performance and the flat-earthers ripping it.

He will not be busted for steroids, although he could be busted for lying under oath.
