RIP Jose Lima

Jose Lima and his family

Former Major League Baseball pitcher Jose Lima died of a heart attack at age 37. To say that Jose Lima would be an understatement character is an understatement. For a man who only had one outstanding season as a pitcher (1999), on above average season (1998), and an OK year (2004) out of 13 seasons, he sure was memorable. His nickname was LIMA TIME, and there hasn’t been a player like him or before him in terms of sheer lunacy and theatrics.

All of his teammates said he was a jovial man, and very approachable and likable. Yankees coach Tony Pena was hurt by Jose Lima’s loss. Nothing was in moderation with LIMA TIME- one day he’d threaten a reporter, and the next he’d hug him. Lima lived his life as an extremist, and it apparatus caught up to him to die so young.

If Jose Lima was pro wrestler, drugs would have been named the cause of death. For now, the newspaper will only say that he had a heart attack, and Jose Lima’s wife said he complained of gas at night.

Anyway, Jose Lima leaves a legacy behind of being eccentric, funny, outspoken, politically correct, and being an interesting clubhouse presence to say the least.

Jose Lima played for many different baseball teams, such as the Tigers (twice), Astros, Royals (twice), Dodgers, Mets, and the Korean baseball league.
