ESPN Yankees vs Red Sox Opening Night Production

Some random observations about how ESPN and MLB handled Opening Night on Sunday Night Basball (Yankees vs Red Sox at Fenway Park):

  1. Orel Hershiser is kinda boring.  I think ESPN kinda went 180 degrees and fired a immoral person like Steve Phillips and hired a straight-laced Mormon to go in a better direction, but I was hoping for someone with a little more charisma. Ya gotta figure there are dozens of suitable candidates, but ESPN obviously wanted to choose someone with no chance of getting involved in a sex scandal.
  2. I felt Neil Diamond singing “Sweet Caroline” and Steven Tyler and Chelsea Tyler singling “God Bless America” at Fenway Park was too much like WWE. Before the Red Sox won the World Championships in 2004 and 2007, it seemed like only Stephen King and Ben Affleck were Red Sox fans. Now it seems like some of the most famous singers of all time are Red Sox fans, and they perform at Fenway. Since when does Fenway copy Yankees Stadium and sing “God Bless America”? I didn’t like the mix of entertainment and sports. I understand most Americans did think it was cool; that’s fine.
  3. Why does Jon Miller only get excited when the Red Sox score and not when the Yankees did something great?
  4. ESPN didn’t have a lot of dugout shots; I wanted to see some camera of the starting pitchers. Looking forward to watching the YESNetwork tonight.
  5. There were a lot of commercials about how ESPN360.com is now ESPN3.com and how ESPN came up with ESPN[yourstate].com. Talk about domain spamming…..

Couldn’t have said it better myself, literally. Juan Pierre is not even good enough to start on a contending team. Also, I miss firejoemorgan, although Joe Morgan’s absence helps to numb the pain.

Unfortunately for us all, this is not an either/or discussion. Both McCarver and Morgan are dolts, and both are foisted — foisted! — upon fans of beisbol everywhere.

Personally, I think Orel Hershiser is pretty talented. Pair him up with Jon Miller, and you've got something.

And in closing, even if you (somehow) like Joe Morgan, FireJoeMorgan.com is all sorts of hilarious. They don't just limit themselves to busting on Morgan.

Why would he do that? I dont think he needs any money, and he would be just lowering himself. The show is desperate now. Without Simon, I wont watch. Steven is great, he is way beyond being on a stupid show like this one.

last night’s game was exciting and i got a little nervous when the score was tied. I should have had a little more faith in the world champions!!
