AJ Burnett, Brett Gardner, A-Rod Beat Rangers

Brett Gardner fast

Brett Gardner: The Fastest Caucasian in MLB

And the New York Yankees have now won their 4th straight series of the 2010 season, beating the Texas Rangers easily in a 7-3 Saturday afternoon game. A.J. Burnett was hot: 7 innings, 7K, and no runs. Right after I posted that A-Rod’s power may be gone, he went ahead and hit his first HR of the season. However perhaps the most impressive offensive feat of the day was Brett Gardner’s 3 infield singles that he ran out. YES announcer John Flash Flaherty expressed his surprise that Brett has been sharing time with Marcus Thames, since Brett won the left field job in Spring.

Curtis Granderson and Jorge Posada had 2 hits, and Derek Jeter had 3 hits including a HR. Even Mark Teixeira got into the act, with a bases loaded RBI. The only hiccup was Alfredo Aceves, who gave up a 3-run HR to Nelson Cruz. Damaso Martes and an intense Joba Chamberlain finished it up.

Chan Ho Park was placed on the DL two days ago, and Boone Logan was called up. Park’s hamstring is messed up, and it’s a wonder why Joe Girardi kept using him so much since Park has a history of being PRONE to injury.

Anyway, back to Brett Garner: Joe Girardi had better FREE BRETT GARDNER. This was Gardner at his best, but he needs more playing time so he can get those cheap infield hits more frequently. Sometimes Brett has a tendency to swing for the fences, but he needs to be encouraged to hit cheap grounders past the third baseman.

Do a google image search one day on Don Mossi, then do the same on Jorge Posada. Look, Don Mossi is still the All-Time King of Ugly, but Posada is surprisingly close. And, yeah, we'd need to *trade* for Bard, and I'd bet the Pads wouldn't let him go except for something rather juicy… Jurrjens, perhaps? I'd rather just suck up the $10 mil and stick with the devil we know. Now, that's not to say the Tigers shouldn't negotiate and see if Pudge would be willing to sign something in the neighborhood of $18 mil for 2 years *in place of* his $13 mil option… And, who knows, maybe he'd do that… But ya gotta at least try, which is, I think, what's really going on here. They just fed a little nugget to the media that they'd seriously consider going without Pudge in 2008 as a bit of pressure on that negotiation.
