Top 10 Most Hated Baseball Players 2010 Edition
Last year I ran the Top 10 Most Hated Baseball Players. With some retirements, it’s time to revisit the most disliked, controversial, boo’ed players in baseball, that fans and MEDIA like to rip. Without further ado here is the 2010 DailySkew Top 10 Most Hated Baseball Players.
1- Manny Ramirez.
Manny Ramirez was ranked #2 last year, but he is now the most hated man in baseball for a few reasons. #1 He was suspended for PED use (steroids, HGH, or hormones) since the last time I published the list. This caused him to miss a bunch of games. #2 He really doesn’t care about the Dodgers, he just wants to collect a paycheck with Scott Boras. This was demonstrated as “Manny being Manny” when he didn’t watch the end of a critical Dodgers game. #3 A-Rod, who was at #1 last year, became a post-season hero. Manny did not.
2- Milton Bradley.
Milton Bradley likes to fight racism and criticism with his fists. He’s been to anger management, he’s apologized, but he always gets into controversies no matter what team he’s on. Last year it was with the Chicago Cubs, who traded him to the Seattle Mariners. I wonder how many teams this talented baseball player will be with before he’s completely ousted from baseball. Bradley was #4 last year, but with yet another bridge burned, I’m having problem defending someone whom I had defended in the past.
3- A-Rod.
Alex Rodriguez may have saved his New York Yankees career, and the MEDIA seems to be leaving him alone regarding his personal life and steroids, but outside of New York, Alex is mocked, feared, and hated, even though every team would gladly take the best player in the AL. Was ranked #1 last year, but he turned everything around in NY with the 2009 championship.
4- Kevin Youkilis.
The secret is out. The national MEDIA has realized Kevin Youkilis gets hit on purpose, instigates fights, complains, lies to umpires, and was jealous of Manny Ramirez, Jason Bay, and isn’t tight with David Ortiz. If Youkilis was a different skin color, the MEDIA would hate him more. As it is, he’s still a “hard-nosed player” to most reporters, although for the first time TV announcers got wise to his attitude. He was unranked last year, but was listed as an Honorable Mention.
5- Carl Pavano.
The snobby, cocky, often-injured millionaire who dates actresses and models had an OK year with the Indians and Twins after screwing the Yankees with years being on the DL – and complained about it. He also attacked New York icon Joe Torre due to the Joe Torre book. It all came to head when he pitched against the Yankees in the 2009 post-season. He pitched a fantastic game, but justice was served. Was an Honorable Mention last year.
6- Pedro Martinez.
In the Final Battle at Yankee Stadium, it was Pedro Martinez who was lying on his back in the middle of the ring starring at the ceiling lights, knocked out by Godzilla Hideki Matsui and Andy Pettitte. Pedro Martinez not only attacked New York and the Yankees leading up to the 2009 World Series, but he also attacked reporters and the MEDIA. Pedro was really playing up the heel role as the best villain there is. After Pedro Martinez was removed from his first loss at Yankee Stadium, the fans boo’ed him from here to tomorrow. Pedro looked up and smirked- the evil smile that should be on his Hall of Fame plaque one day. Unranked last year because it had looked like he was not going to signed by anyone and was on the DL.
7 – A.J. Pierzynski.
Still baseball players’ #1 choice. The White Sox catcher likes to start fights, talk trash, and is stubborn and ignorant. Even his college buddies know about his abrasive personality. Ranked #8 last year.
8- Carlos Gomez.
I don’t have a problem with cocky superstars because to be the man ya gotta beat the man. I do have a problem with cocky backup players who will never amount to anything, yet think they are the bomb. Enter pinch runner extraordinaire- the man who was traded for ace Johan Santana- CARLOS GOMEZ. He thinks he’s a game changer, he cheers for himself or when his team goes up by one run (which always results in his team losing in the next inning), and likes to start fights. Even the Twins manager Ron Gardenhire admitted he couldn’t stand Carlos Gomez. Gomez was traded again to the Brewers this offseason. Unranked last year.
9- Jose Reyes.
Jose Reyes was on the DL last year with the Mets. He messed up his calf. Since speed is his only skill, that is pretty damaging to his career. Mets announcers Keith Hernandez, Gary Cohen, and Ron Darling lost patience with Jose Reyes these last few years- with Hernandez and Reyes actually coming to blows. It’s just a matter of time before Reyes goes bye-bye from New York, as I doubt he’ll ever live up to expectations (being the next Derek Jeter or Rickey Henderson). Ranked #7 last year.
10- Gary Sheffield.
Ranked #3 last year, after attacking someone he used to respect and someone who defended him- the Tigers’ Jim Leyland. After signing with the Mets, Sheff pouted this year when Omar Minaya didn’t give him an extension. Sheffield had a surprising good year with the 2009 Mets. He always has something controversial and negative to say. He’s done it all off the field, too. This is because he said as a kid he saw the White Man abuse his Uncle Doc Gooden. What a great comic book super villain origin.

I agree with the ten most hated list! But i can add more and will in the near future!
I was surprised about A Rod being on that list! He helped the Yanks
win the world series. He is not as
bad as some of the other players are. Ok, girlfriends and steroids is an issue, but he is not the only one who did those things. I just love my Yankees, hee hee.
A-Rod is dropping, but baseball is not like pro wrestling, where turns happen in one night.
