Yankees Trade Coke, Kennedy, Austin Jackson for Curtis Granderson

Although not official yet, it appears that the New York Yankees have acquired the Detroit Tigers centerfielder Curtis Granderson for Phil Coke, Ian Kennedy, and top prospect outfielder Austin Jackson. Granderson will be 29 years old when the Yankees 2010 season starts and has power (30HRs). Because he played in a pitcher’s ballpark it’s very possible that Curtis can bat over .275 with an on-base percentage of .360 with over 30 homeruns next year. That is excellent for a CF.

One problem with Granderson: he hasn’t show he can hit lefties (.210 career). I’m pretty sure Joe Girardi will bench him quite a few games if there is a tough lefty opponent on the mound.
For what it’s worth, the MEDIA portrayal of Granderson is very positive: he’s known to be a hard worker, and big on urban volunteering, and gets along with teammates.
Assuming this deal is finalized, New Yorks bids farewell to Phil Coke. That’s a shame, although not the end of the world. Coke should do very well in Detroit. The Ian Kennedy experiment is over; in truth his Yankees career was over in 2008 when he kept denying he sucked. As far as Austin Jackson is concerned, my theory that Brian Cashman hyped him up as a super Yankees prospect came true. Jackson will never be the next Bernie Williams; he is Melky Cabrera with speed. However, Jackson was still a major chess piece in the trade market. That leaves Joba Chamberlain, Phil Hughes, and the Yankees #1 prospect Jesus Montero as trade material if the Yankees want to pull off a blockbuster Roy Halladay trade.
What does the 2010 Yankees outfield look like now? Melky Cabrera in LF, Granderson in CF, and Nick Swisher in RF. Brett Gardner is the 4th outfielder. But the question on everyone’s mind is: what about Johnny Damon? Obviously Damon is far superior to Melky with the bat, but Melky is light-years ahead of Damon with the glove and arm. The irony is that Melky, Garnder, Granderson, and Damon have problems with left-hander pitchers. Why even platoon then? Personally I believe Brian Cashman won’t settle for that. He will make another move (either signing Damon and/or getting someone who can hit lefties), especially since he’s not a Melky fan and doesn’t view him as a starter.

Coke was good. Bye bye Kennedy though. If Cashman can deal off players like chess pieces, who is really safe? Joba? Damon? Melky?
I hate it when players get traded,
especially the ones i have grown to really like. I hope Curtis Granderson does well for us, but at
    whose expense?
