Andy Pettitte is BACK! Big money 1-year deal!

December 9, 2009
By DailySkew

Andy Pettitte and Brian Cashman didn’t play games this offseason. Andy Pettitte- New York ICON- has been rumored to have signed a one year deal worth $11.75 million dollars guaranteed. This time there was no haggling, fake retirements, dissing Andy, or performance bonuses- Andy gets the flat rate, and normal playoffs/World Series bonuses if the 2010 Yankees make it again.

The 2010 New York Yankees starting rotation is now CC Sabathia, Andy Pettitte, A.J. Burnett, Joba Chamberlain, and Phil Hughes, unless the Yankees go after Roy Halladay or John Lackey. Rumor mill has John Lackey going to the New York Mets, which would be a match made in heaven.

By the way, the Curtis Granderson trade is official. The Andy Pettitte deal has not been officially announced as yet.

This is a great move as Andy Pettitte shut his critics up this October, and no one can take 2009 away from him. He very well may have pitched his way into the Hall of Fame this season. This Yankees October showed how reliable he is, and how came through in the clutch against tough competition; he didn’t choke like his opponents did.

    Vahl here.

I love what the Yanks have done this offseason so far. Getting Granderson and then locking up Pettitte for another year were terrific moves.

That rotation looks good now … and Cashman may not be done yet. Unbelievable.

Unlike Theo Epstein, Brian Cashman works without telling the MEDIA his every move.

Thank goodness he did the right thing with Andy; the way he had treated Andy, Jorge, and Mo was sickening these past few years. This time he learned his lesson and got it done ASAP.
