2010 Yankees Trade Rumors and Free Agent Signings

The only remaining free agent pitchers that the Yankees can get as a 5th starter are guys like Ben Sheets, Justin Dushscherer, Jarrod Washburn, Joel Piniero, Erik Bedard, Jon Garland, Livan Hernandez, Paul Byrd, Eric Milton, Tom Glavine, Randy Johnson, Pedro Martinez, Jose Contreras, Kris Benson, Bartolo Colon, John Bannister, Brett Myers, Russ Ortiz, Vincente Padilla, Sidnet Ponson, Wang, and John Smoltz.

With those picks, I guess Brian Cashman might as well stay pat. If Cashman is going to limit the innings for Joba Chamberlain and Phil Hughes, then that means we’re going to see Alfredo Aceves, Chad Gaudin, and Sergio Mitre a lot in the rotation, with perhaps some AAA fodder. That can go bad if any of the members of the 2010 Yankees starting rotation go down with an injury.

As far as trades go, Cliff Lee and Roy Halladay have been eaten up, and I haven’t come across any further trade rumors yet besides the dubious “The Post reported that Yankees GM Brian Cashman is believed to have inquired about Cubs starter Carlos Zambrano”

All I can say is that the heat will be on Joba Chamberlain once again. The Joba Watch was one of the worst things last season for Yankees fans.

JOHNNY DAMON RUMOR: Scott Boras lowered his demands to 2 years / $20 million total after the Yankees officially signed Nick Johnson for 1 year. Cashman said “no”.
