Aroldis Chapman: Cuban Defector Going to Yankees or Red Sox?
Aroldis Chapman Scouting Report: Albertin Aroldis Chapman de la Cruz left his parents, sisters, girlfriend, and infant from Cuba to play in the major leagues to make DINERO. He’s allegedly 21 years old and radar guns clock him at 102 MPH (Wikipedia says it’s 106MPH-hahaha!). He’s a free agent, and as crazy as all of this sounds, the Red Sox and Yankees are expected to engage in a bidding war for his services. Scouts around the world say he is one of the most talented pitchers in the world.
To show you how much Chapman wanted to escape Cuba, he disobeyed a direct order from Cuban President Raul Castro. [Yet Castro did not kill him or his family, meaning Castro knows the kid is a superstar.] There is no doubting how strong Aroldis is. However, many scouts think he is too cocky…too sure of himself…and has too much power without harnessing his talent. They say he’s a headcase (he recently fired his agent and hooked up with the Hendricks brothers, who represent Roger Clemens, Job Chamberlain, and Andy Pettitte). They say once he hits America, he will EAT, EAT, EAT, and have problems.
It should be noted Team Japan destroyed Aroldis Chapman in the WBC.
Anyway, Chapman would ask for millions yet will be in the minor leagues for a few years before being called up. Major League Baseball teams will probably give him “Joba Rules” as well. I doubt Aroldis approves of being in the minor or Joba Rules, and will most likely rebel against his “oppressors” while spending his money like a madman.
The Yankees should PASS on Aroldis Chapman, since Yankees GM Brian Cashman has NO way to provide Aroldis ways to deal with culture shock, dealing with riding buses in the minors for 2+ years, pitching out of the bullpen in the majors at first, or anything else associated with feeling mentally comfortable in New York. The kid is undisciplined and does what he pleases. Be careful what you wish for with Aroldis Chapman. Ask Kyle Farnsworth about the power of throwing 100MPH. Ya gotta know how to pitch with control as well. I doubt Aroldis is going to listen to anyone here in the United States. I’m pretty sure New York or Boston will EAT HIM ALIVE and he will FIGHT BACK. He’s better suited in a team with limited coverage and pressure, but the problem is that those teams can’t afford his money demands.
