Al Leiter announcer YES Network

Al Leiter has improved steadily announcing in 2009 since the Yankees claimed first place. He’s also been getting a lot of YES Network announcing work lately. Although Al’s negatives as an announcer (stutters, flip-flops worse than John Kerry, too detailed, etc.) will prevent him from ever becoming an elite one, he does drop some great stories about the Mets, Yankees, Blue Jays, and Marlins every once a while.

Case in point: Leiter said that when he became a free agent for the first time after his Blue Jays run, he and his wife and agent had dinner with the Blue Jays owner, and Al expressed a willingness to work near home in Florida. This is after the Blue Jays had paid for Al’s surgery and rehab, so this was an agonizing decision. Then the Orioles got into the mix and offered him a larger contract than what the Marlins offered.
Leiter had a long conversation with his friend Michael Kay over the phone, and Kay convinced Al to go with Baltimore because they were a great team (in 1996) and Kay said winning championships was more important than rebuilding with the Marlins. Leiter agreed with Kay, but the next day Kay saw the headline “Leiter Signs with Marlins”.

I always liked Al Leiter especially when he pitched for the
    Mets back in the day!
I do not understand how he takes all the "crap" off of Michael Kay
    without punching his face in!
Al is a nice guy and knows alot about pitching. He was trying to explain how you get the feel of the
baseball by putting it in his sock!
Michael Kay just kept insulting Al
and not listening to him at all.
    Mike's a real jerk…
