Nick Swisher powers Yankees over Blue Jays

Sergio Mitre was…Sergio Mitre, which means he gave the Yanks 4.1 innings, 8 hits, and 3 runs, and he got a pat on the back by Joe Girardi for being a trooper. So the Yanks were forced to dive into the bullpen before a 4-game set with the Red Sox starting tonight.

But the results were good: Alfredo Aceves’s shoulder seemed better for two innings, but a solo shot in his 3rd inning of work showed he probably should not have been used so long. Phil Coke and Phil Hughes rebounded, and Dave Robertson finished the 9th as the Yankees SWEPT the Toronto Blue Jays 8-4.
Nick Swisher was clutch last night, and Johnny Damon had 3 hits including an important insurance HR in the 9th that allowed Mariano Rivera to rest before the big Boston series. Oh, and congrats to Eric Hinske who came off the bench and got a sac fly RBI late in the game. This guy is a professional, and has proved himself to be a great role player. Too bad we won’t be able to judge him as an every day player, since he is forced to ride the pine.
My fun bold prediction for the Yankees Red Sox 4-game series: there will be a sweep!
