David Ortiz STEROIDS

David Ortiz’s reaction about being on the 2003 Steroid List: “I have no comment.”

Wow, pretty shocking Big Papi has no comment, after all he was pretty vocal about PEDs (performance enhancing drugs). Let’s hit REWIND and revisit those statements:

“I think you clean up the game by the testing, I test you, you test positive, you’re going to be out. Period.”

“If I test positive by using any kind of banned substance. I’m going to disrespect my family, the game, the fans and everybody. . And I don’t want to be put in that situation. So what I will do, I won’t use it. I’m pretty sure everybody is on the same page.”

His buddy Manny Ramirez was also revealed on the list.

The MEDIA is having a field day with this. People are checking Big Papi’s stats, and sure enough he started becoming a slugger in July 2003, the year he failed the test. Now this year he sucks. That’s all fans need to make judgements.

The Red Sox’s two World Championships are now being questioned. I’m happy about that because the MEDIA has embraced the Red Sox organization, ownership, and Red Sox Nation. I’m happy because the Red Sox were largely absent from the Mitchell Report (I had suspected Mitchell would not reveal Boston names due to his conflict of interest with the organization and owner John Henry.)

Understand this: Big Papi is a fan favorite and MEDIA darling. ESPN is already saying things like “Why not reveal all the names; it’s not fair to single out Big Papi” and “That list is supposed to be anonymous”. MEANWHILE, THEY did not come to A-Rod’s defense.

I think in the long run, this is a good thing for baseball writers- if their lovable Big Papi is a drug user and liar, than they can’t easily vilify A-Rod, Giambi, Bonds, McGwire, Clemens, Pettitte, or anyone else who has been involved in this mess.

Steroids apologist and Red Sox employee Bill James recently said that PEDs will be the norm in the future for us and our children, and we will be viewing these baseball players as pioneers. I wonder if he knew Manny and Papi were on the list, and tried some damage control.

“Hey, amigo. I got some good stuff for you.”

    Bud Selig, 2006:

"You've often heard me say that we're in the Golden Era of baseball. David Ortiz — Big Papi — symbolizes that Golden Era. He's been such a great player on a grand stage, but it's his personality along with his ability that has made him an important part of this sport. I have enormous respect for David Ortiz. He's conducted himself so beautifully off the field as well as on the field. I'm very proud of David Ortiz for a myriad of reasons. It's everything about him. When you say `David Ortiz,' the first thing I think is 'Big Papi,' and that's a great compliment to him. He stands as a great symbol of the success of this sport — and a symbol for all the right reasons.''

Big Papi's got a great spokesman. The best. Runs circles around A-Rod's spokesman.

The Kryptonian High Council is not buyin', though.

    Big Papi spokesman:

"Today I was informed by a reporter that I was on the 2003 list of MLB players to test positive for performance-enhancing substances. This happened right before our game, and the news blindsided me. I said I had no comment because I wanted to get to the bottom of this.

"I want to talk about this situation and I will as soon as I have more answers. In the meantime I want to let you know how I am approaching this situation. One, I have already contacted the Players Association to confirm if this report is true. I have just been told that the report is true. Based on the way I have lived my life, I am surprised to learn I tested positive. Two, I will find out what I tested positive for. And, three, based on whatever I learn, I will share this information with my club and the public. You know me — I will not hide and I will not make excuses.

"I want to thank my family, the Red Sox, my teammates, and the fans for their patience and support."
