When cellular phones were first made available to the general public, they were physically big, very expensive, and required a base unit, like in a car phone. Good reception was a huge problem. In 2009, cellular phone reception has improved, and users have the ability to store pictures, e-mail, games, music, and surf the web. Cell phones and text-messaging have become a world-wide social norm.
