CC Sabathia outduels Justin Verlander

An actual pitcher’s matchup that lived up to its billing? It’s true; it’s true. Although CC Sabathia was shaky, he managed to bear down and get the double plays to get out of jams and gave up 0 runs in 7 innings, as the Yankees beat the Detroit Tigers 2-1. A-Rod hit a HR to make it 1-0, and Melky Cabrera had a clutch infield RBI single. At the time it looked like it was an insurance run that wouldn’t count since it was in the bottom of the 7th, but the Tigers hit a HR off Alfredo Aceves to make it 2-1. Mariano Rivera got save #507. Al Leiter likes to say Mo’s second to Trevor Hoffman on the career save list, since he probably feels Trevor doesn’t get enough credit. Yawn.
