Red Sox Sweep Yankees Part II

Boston Red Sox 7 @ New York Yankees 3

Yankees Report Card

Guys who did their jobs:

  • Joba Chamberlain started the game gy giving up 5 consecutive hits to make the score 4-0. Then he proceeded to strike out 12, including 8 in a row before he was taken out for no reason.
  • Melk Cabrera- 2 doubles, single
  • Johnny Damon, showing power

Guys who didn’t do their jobs:

  • Ramiro Pena, 3 runners left on
  • Jose Molina, 2 runners left on. With Jorge Posada on the DL, the catching situation is a problem.
  • Jon Albaledejo let the close 4-3 game get away
  • Mark Melacon- Walk City
  • David Roberston- let’s walk an inherited runner to score.

Joe Girardi nitpick (sorry): How do you remove a pitcher in the 6th inning (108 pitches) who had just struck out 8 men in a row? Oh, I know. Just following orders from the CashMan. Maybe fans and reporters will start to give Joba some slack for not going deep into games- he obviously is on a strict pitch count- he wasn’t even allowed to get the final out in the 6th. What’s the difference between 108 pitches and 112 pitches? Would Joba’s arm fall off? Heck, let the kid pitch the 7th, too. Every big name pitcher has thrown 130 at some point. When will Joba be allowed to go way past 100?

How the Yankees lost: Outclassed and hitters sucking with runners in scoring position.

Torre obeyed all the Joba Rules, too.

The cover is misleading, as usual.

    I agree with you 100%!
If you asked “Joba” how he felt last night during the game he would
have said: “Joe, let me strike out
    this one last batter”!! PLEASE!
What would Torre have done? Whose rules apply here? Manager or Cashman? Who really calls the shots and the games?
I know that i may sound like a broken record but: Where have you
gone Joe Torre, the Yankee fans
turn their broken hearts to you?
    Coney should become the yanks
pitching coach! He works for the “yes” network!! Think about it!
    His coach was “MEL”…Hello!!!!

I’m glad you see the seriousness of this matter. I mean, THEY already SKIP HIS STARTS on off-days, but now we see he’s on a 100 count? Cashman has secret Joba Rules.

It was ABSURD to see him being taken out after 5 2/3 innings on that K streak. This was unheard of the 1980′s and even the 1990′s.

    THEY don’t have exceptions, huh?

    Protect Joba’s arm.

Against the RED SOX? Joba couldn’t get one more batter out? Not one more inning? Maybe go after the K record and keep the score 4-3?

And the kid doesn’t complain and is polite about it. THEY already got to him.

David Cone commented that THEY want to save his arm, and prevent injury.

Coney also said that when he was a player he threw 130 pitches with the Mets all the time.

Or bring up Bret Tomko. Whatever.

It’s hilarious – I bet Cashman would let Tomko throw 130 pitches, and they hold back Joba, who is a FAR BETTER PITCHER.

The Yanks need to stop micro-managing Joba and let him be a true starter. If we wanted a 100 pitch guy, we could’ve resigned Pavano. Joba is WAY better than that, and deserves the opportunity to pitch.

If they refuse to do that, then THEY (pointing down the hall) should put Joba in the ‘pen, and stop wasting his, and the team’s, time.

If Joba is going to be used like this, they might as well put him in the bullpen! Are we trying to protect the kids arms or win ballgames! We’re talking 108 pitches. This isn’t Jack McDowell getting overused in Chicago 15 years ago! Sheesh!

Treat Joba like a man and starter. 125 pitch limit. No limit to the number of innings pitched this year.

If not, put him in the bullpen when Waing comes back or Kennedy gets healthy.
