Edwar Ramirez and Kei Igawa together again
It seemed as if their two career paths were going in opposite directions: Edwar Ramirez had earned a spot on the Yankees roster, and had the chance to work the 7th or 8th innings. If things went right, he could have been a setup man with Brian Bruney. MEANWHILE, Kei Igawa was known throughout baseball as Brian Cashman’s folly; he is not even on the Yankees’ 40-man roster, which means any team in baseball could just take him- but no one wants him. The Yanks can’t even give this guy away for free. Kei has been pitching well in Triple-A Scranton this year.
Granted the MEDIA doesn’t report that Edwar is suffering from should bursitis, and that’s why he lost his fastball. They don’t explain that he opted to play instead of surgery or rest.
But the real story is about how Edward and Kei will not be reunited. As the DailySkew reported Edward and Kei had bonded in 2008 Spring Training after playing in AAA in 2007 together. Now..they are finally together again.
EDWAR: “When Joe tell me I am being sent down to Scranton when Bruney come back, I surprised, but I have to be better. I have to go back and work. I not doing what I supposed to do this season…but at least I see Kei Igawa again. It will be like old days again, no?”
IGAWA: “I no want to be here in Scranton this long. But in last three years I learned a lot about these player and the coaches, about the bus rides and the routines. I feel comfortable, and now with Edwar coming back I know things get better. Ahhhhh….Now things be fun again. He tell me all the story about big league baseball and New York City.”
The DailySkew also asked Kei about his team’s struggles in the minors:
IGAWA: “You know the media is very tough here in Scranton. I pitch on three-day rest and thought I pitch well given the time frame but they still ask me anyway why I loss. But the truth reason why we are lose is because- you know- we lost Angel Berroa, Ramiro Pena, and Francisco Cervelli; they are no longer here. They make me a happy, very funny guy.”
