Crazy eights: Yanks win 8th in a row

This time it was the 8th inning when the Yankees blew out the Baltimore Orioles in route to their 8th consecutive victory. The game also featured back-to-back-to-back HR by Nick Swisher, Robsinson Cano, and Melky Cabrera. Phil Hughes got out of jams and finished with 9K, 1BB and 3 runs in 5 innings. It was a good start for him, but not enough to make Joe Girardi’s decision any tougher when Wang comes back. Alfredo Alceves continues to be the unsung hero of the bullpen with 2 scoreless innings to drop his ERA to 1.74. Mariano Rivera had save #490, which prompted Michael Kay to call him selfish for pitching in the 9th in a blow-out.
