Brian Cashman on Chien Ming Wang: Not in my hands

Brian Cashman finally commented on the state of his team as reported by 1050 ESPN: Chien Ming Wang will remain in the bullpen until Joe Girardi decides to make a change. Cashman says “[Wang's] contract says baseball player,” not starter, he “is sporting a 20-something ERA,” and “we didn’t put him in this situation.”

Nice way to bolster a pitcher’s confidence, Cashman. It’s comments such as these that show me Cashman has no interpersonal skills or sports psychology training.

The proper thing to say would have been, “Wang will remain in the bullpen until he can get back into form. He had an ankle injury last year, and a hip injury this year, and needs to get some clean innings under his belt, like he did last night. We don’t have a set time-table right now, it depends on his results.”

If you don’t want him, Brian, shut up and trade him.

Cashman is a “what have you done for me lately” person…
Wang really has not confessed his
    injuries to Giraldi..He should have
never been allowed to pitch in those games this year if he was hurt!! He hurt himself and his team.
A.J. pitched well last night against Texas. He will get better!
Give the guy a chance.. C.C. came
through so far for us.(thank you God)…..Pitching is not the entire
game of baseball! Yanks back one
another up! Damon crashed into a wall catching a ball and A.J. could not believe that! Well, that’s what yanks do! Look at Melky! I love how he and Cano (dontcha no) have “come of age”!!

    I’ll said it again:

Wang relies on defense to win.

It was just a matter of time that his ERA would catch up with him.

He will fade into obscurity within 5 years.

“Remember Wang? Yeah…whatever happened to him? I think he’s pitching in Taiwan or with the Nationals.”

Cashman is behind all this conspiracy with Wang.

Joe G is in a bad situation because he is a player manager and would support his players.

Since Wang’s first arbitration hearing with the team before last season, Wang has been very under appreciated by Cashman and Wang felt that that Cashman didn’t put him in the picture of Yankees future with such a low 1-year contract.

Now Cashman is turning the tables to Girardi and says it’s HIS call on Wang?

    Are you serious, Brian?

Wang just didn’t have that arm strength yet after the extended non-action due to the ankle injury and would up getting a hip injury for overcompensating.

Two things come up to my mind why Cashman is treating Wang like garbage.

    1) Cashman just doesn’t want to believe Wang can be a top of the rotation pitcher because if that’s the case, Wang is going to get big bucks when he hits the free agent market. So he has to downplay Wang’s value to the team.

    2) Cashman wants Joe to keep Phil Hughes in the rotation and give him endless chances to hope Phil can pitch well to justify the non-trade for Johan Santana two winters ago.

Yankees spent 80+ millions on Burnett and has AJ really pitched to his value yet? Does Cashman call out A.J.? Nope…

I was as shocked as anyone to see Wang’s bad start this season. But he is a proven pitcher who can win in New York.

I am not saying Yankees should give Wang a contract like CC or Johan. But at least let him pitch and let him be what he is supposed to be- a starter.

Yankees are estroying Wang’s mind by keeping him in limbo.

Wang killed this team three years in a row. His injuries killed the Yanks. His playoff performance against Cleveland killed the Yanks. Getting hurt last year just running, and messing his whole career up with a fluke. This year with his 25 ERA.

I don’t think THEY are happy with him and maybe THEY don’t think he rehabbed well and maybe Wang doesn’t tell THEM the truth.

Cashman speaks like this when he’s ticked off.
