Yankees win thanks to Posada’s disputed HR and Cody Ransom

Cleveland Indians 3 @ The New York Yankees 7

Yankees Report Card

Guys who did their jobs:

  • Jorge Posada, pinch hit HR. The MEDIA will make a big stinker about instant replay not ruling in the Indians favor, like Ron Darling and Chip Carey did, but they fail to admit: 1) the fan did not reach over the fence; 2) Instant replay rules say that you must have clear evidence to overturn the call, and there was none- the Indian outfielder’s glove hit the fan’s glove right behind the wall (Posada would have been called OUT for hitting a ball out of the ballpark, which is absurd) and; 3) The Indians had 6 more outs and didn’t score a run. In fact, the Yankees scored 3 more runs in the next inning thanks to…
  • Cody Ransom, whose base clearing double made the one run game out of reach
  • Brian Bruney- 1-2-3 in the 8th after the disputed call
  • Mariano Rivera, no runs in the 9th
  • Hideki Matsui may be physically hurting, but he had a clutch double and worked an 0-2 count to a walk.
  • Jon Albaledejo, who got out of a bases loaded jam created by A.J. Burnett in the 7th
  • Hahaha: Former Yankees bomb Carl Pavano outdueled former Marlins teammate A.J. Burnett!

Guys who didn’t do their jobs:

  • N/A

How the Yankees won: Jorge and Cody’s clutch hits, gritty start by A.J. to keep it close (he didn’t have his stuff), and a lights out bullpen.

The air flow in the stadium might be the problem causing all of those HR. If you look at the back wall in the upper deck it’s basically open and it must let in a lot air. Sort of like having the windows open in both sides of your house. They might wanna consider closing up those openings.

Cleveland is a very good team that got off to a slow start. They’ll be in contention for the AL central title this year. They kicked out butts in two games, but guess what, we split. On to the next game.

If replay in the NFL took 8½ minutes, games would last four hours and there would be an uproar bordering on hysteria. I think MLB would benefit from a system where a manager can ask for a replay and automatically get it in appropriate situations; why the umps conferred for so long before going to the video tape is beyond me. I know replay remains rare in baseball, but there’s got to be a solution that doesn’t result in a complete game stoppage for minutes on end.
