Opening Day Yankees Orioles Report Card

Mark Teixeira is going to have to earn his pinstripes, just like Tino Martinez and Jason Giambi did.

Annnnd welcome to MLB Opening Day 2009

The New York Yankees 5 @ Baltimore Orioles 10

Yankees Who Did Their Job

  • Godzilla Hideki Matsui, who had a clutch homerun to make the score 6-5
  • Jorge Posada, who guarded the plate and then hit a HR
  • Johnny Damon, who had a few great hits
  • Nick Swisher off the bench, with a CLUTCH double
  • Jon Albaladejo, who stopped C.C.’s bleeding for 1.1 innings

Yankees Who Didn’t Do Their Job

  • C.C. Sabathia, who had no strikeouts and did not have his stuff
  • Mark Teixeira, who let the boo-birds made him CHOKE!
  • Cody Ransom, who looks like an independent leaguer- automatic out and nervous glove
  • Xavier Nady, who didn’t even TRY to avoid a run down (replay showed he could have)
  • Brian Bruney, who was the OLD Brian Bruney- 2 walks, wild pitch
  • Damaso Marte, who got me upstairs on my computer to type this before the game was over.

Joe Girardi nitpicks (sorry): Should C.C. have been quick hooked? The man had nothing…I guess Girardi believed that Phil Coke can throw 2-3 innings in relief on Opening Day with no problems. May have to rethink that one next time (Coke may become a sacrifical lamb as a long man)…Girardi didn’t protest fan interference with Johnny Damon. How about pleading for instant replay?

ESPN announcers: Thank you, Joe Morgan, for being a balanced person and a gentleman. Jon Miller, how come Orioles homeruns get called with more excitement than Yankees homeruns (seriously). Vice President Joe Biden………………………………………..uhm…………….maybe another post.

DailySkew Free Pass ™: To C.C. Sabathia, who always has a bad April, and then transform into Bob Gibson come May.

Why the Yankees lost: C.C. Sabathia had no fastball or velocity on a cold April day. C.C. and Phil Coke were left in the game too long.

The umpires made it clear: they will NOT use instant replay if asked.

    This was premeditated.

YANKEES SUCK! YANKEES SUCK! So much for the NEW Yankees!

Nady blew it…why didn’t he run? The game easily could have been tied by then, and Phil Coke wouldn’t have had to be extended so long.
