Lee Smith Interview

Lee Smith via telephone on his Hall of Fame snubs in recent years:

“When I retired, nobody seemed to know I was the all-time saves leader for almost 15 years. Until Trevor Hoffman broke my record, half the people thought Eckersley was the all-time leader.”

“THEY’RE holding out on me. I have, like, 200 more saves than two or three guys who are in there. I don’t understand, man.”

    How about:

"For the moon never beams without bringing me dreams
    of the beautiful Annabel Lee,
And the stars never rise but I feel the bright eyes
    of the beautiful Annabel Lee."

Lots of consonance with the "b" sound: "beams" "bringing" "bright" and the repeated "beautiful Annabel".

Nice effect with the consonance of "s" in the second clause ("stars" "rise" "eyes") that parallels to some extent the consonance of repeated "m" sound in the first.

If you send another e-mail asking what your status is they'll either think you didn't get the message telling you to send an updated resume or they'll think you're too thick for the position.

The phrase "at which time" is a bit stilted. Here's a better way to say the same thing — but DON'T correct them: "Please send me an updated resume. I'll then contact you to schedule an interview."

I am totally shocked that Lee Smith
got snubbed like he did!! Aren’t the people who vote suppose to have
the nominees statistics in front of
them while making their decision about who should be on the ballot for the hall of fame???
It is a shame players like Smith
are excluded..I am a yankee fan but
    i remember watching Lee play.
When ever he was called on to pitch
he was amazing to watch!!! What’s
up with the morons who vote!!
The sports writers are another story for the “daily skew”….
