2009 Hall of Fame Election: Rickey Henderson and Jim Rice

Congratulations to Rickey Henderson for making the Hall of Fame on his first try. It took Jim Rice 15 years. ’nuff said when it comes to Rice. I was right, though. Joe Gordon made the HOF via Veteran Committee, as I reported previously.

Anyway, Andre Dawson and Bert Blyleven will probably make it one of these years now.

Mark McGwire is still paying the price. Try explaining why a man with so many homeruns is not in the Hall of Fame to a kid. You can’t.

Tim Raines is being disrespected.

I’m glad David Cone received 21 votes.

Seems like Matt Williams was retconned thanks to the Mitchell Report.

Alan Trammell’s accomplishments have been forgotten as well.

Tommy John, Mark Grace, David Cone, Matt Williams, Mo Vaughn, Jay Bell, Jesse Orosco, Ron Gant, Dan Plesac and Greg Vaughn will all be removed from the ballot.

2010 ballot:

Newcomers: Roberto Alomar, Kevin Appier, Andy Ashby, Ellis Burks, Dave Burba, Andres Galarraga, Pat Hentgen, Mike Jackson, Eric Karros, Ray Lankford, Barry Larkin, Edgar Martinez, Fred McGriff, Mark McLemore, Shane Reynolds, David Segui, Robin Ventura, Fernando Vina, Todd Zeile

And returning: Dawson, Blyleven, Lee Smith, Morris, Raines, McGwire, Trammell, Parker, Mattingly, Murphy, Baines.

Actually, this is going to be pretty controversial when Alomar, Larkin, Edgar, and McGriff do not get in on their first ballot. Each of them has been forgotten, and never had positive MEDIA attention at the end of their careers. A shame, since all were one of the best at their positions.

WOW! I usually check the “skew” every morning and wouldn’t you know it that the one time i do not check “in” RICKEY GETS ELECTED, of coarse i am happy for everybody who was elected.. But I hope David Cone gets in and for God’s sake will some people start voting for
    Mattingly already??????
I don’t want Mcquire to make the hall, i am sorry but he freaked it
up for every other player who got
busted for steroids. I am not saying it was a good idea for players to take “roids” but now
Giambi is “tainted” and alot of other GOOD players as well!

McGwire HAS to get in for any of your other favorites to get in, like Pudge and Rocket.

THE ROCKET? At least Jason did not lie about his circumstances….

I should have figured it out by now…you picked the right guys, Damian. Never doubt your baseball knowledge. Did Jim Rice’s numbers improve over the last 15 years??

Why is “CONEY” being taken off of the ballot?

Candidates needed around 30 votes minimum.
