Is Pedro Martinez Done?

At one point he was the best, some say on pace to be the best ever. Statistics show his his peak years were better than Sandy Koufax’s.
Now, after another year riddled with injuries with the Mets (where he was barely their 2008 5th starter) Pedro Martinez is a free agent.
With 200 innings being the benchmark for starting pitchers, Martinez, 36, only threw 106 innings last year to the tune of a 5.61 ERA. Horrible considering he pitched at Shea Stadium. In 2007 he hurled only 28 innings. In 2006, 132.2 innings.
In addition to being brittle, he’s only good for 5-6 innings. Scouts says his stuff is no longer there. Does he gave any gas left in his tank? How much money does he want? Who will sign him? It’s very ironic that the 4 elite pitchers of the modern era: Pedro Martinez, Randy Johnson, Greg Maddux, and Roger Clemens are on their last legs or out of the game, and are worth next to nothing as free agents.
Here’s what online stat geeks are saying about Pedro:
“Love ya, Petey. Now scram. ““I wonder if Pedro would be a decent pitching coach.”
“His K/9 is down from his prime, but it’s still good. His fastball is slower, but it’s still passable. He’s coming off a down year but he has a lot of upside — he could be good again. He might suck too, but how much would it cost the Mets to try? At the very worst, he could keep the seat warm for Niese to start in the minors.”
“Those last 28 innings in 2007 were brilliant, vintage Pedro. The innings he tossed in 2008 weren’t great, but he showed flashes of brilliance and – just watching him – I felt like he was close.”
“His September ERA, however, was 7.77.”

I guess the real question is, how much is the gamble worth? And how far has Pedro fallen where he’s worth min. wage plus bonuses?
