Hal Steinbrenner is the New Boss- no more George
Hal Steinbrenner is officially the New Boss of the New York Yankees. He will be in charge of the finances, such as how much can be spent of free agents. The last two years Hal has been handling the business side of the Yankees. His baseball acumen is unknown, but his first “act”- offering free agent stud C.C. Sabathia a deadline to accept the $140 million dollar offer seems like he has the same New York arrogance and pride his father had.
Anyway, here’s was Hal says about the official coronation:
“[My father's] been slowing down the last couple years. Really, for the last two years I have been intimately involved with all aspects and all departments of the company. It’s what I’ve been doing day-to-day. My duties aren’t really going to change and my workload isn’t going to change much. So, I mean, it’s as much a procedural thing within the family, I think, as anything at this point.”
Hank Steinbrenner will continue to be the front-man of the organization, while George Steinbrenner’s health continues to fail.
However, Howard Rubenstein, George Steinbrenner’s official spokesman released a statement:
“[This] is consistent with George Steinbrenner’s desire and commitment to have his sons assume the day-to-day responsibility of operating the club.”
I guess we’re all getting old. I never thought George would become senile and a non-entity so soon (it could be argued, he lost his mind around 2004-2005). But it can happen to anyone. Age, sickness, and dying are all part of life, and it happens to all of us.

I’m glad it’s officially over. It’s a dream come true to see George gone.
I am shocked that george(adolf) finally caved in!! maybe his son Hal will be a “better and more considerate “boss than the old man
was! I mean that firing and rehiring shit of players all of the time sucked, how embarassing to
be fired in front of the baseball fans in New York!!
2009, hopefully will be a better year for the Yankees!!
George was so dominant in the 70’s until a few years ago. I’m glad he’s done, but skeptical about his sons.
i too am very skeptical about Hal and Hank steinbrenner running the show! If they are one half better than their dad was, that’s still scary thinking!!
