Bud Selig World Series Rain Delay Suspended Game
Bud Selig, with the 2008 MLB Rule Book, was actually fair this time.
I’m the last person to ever defend Bud Selig, but when it’s Joe Buck doing the complaining about him, I’ll make an exception.
FOX Sports sidekick Joe Buck (who refused to give his name) on the suspended game “rule change”:
“This whole thing is just too fishy. The managers both saying they unilaterally didn’t tell their players (about the rule change) and nobody telling us or the other media. If he (Selig) really made this decision beforehand, why didn’t he announce it to everybody? Or even more importantly, why didn’t he make this decision before the postseason even began?”
The fact is any criticism or argument against Game 5 continuing (the 2007 rules say a tied game WILL be suspended and continued as long as 4.5 innings were completed) looks like the complainers wanted the game to be reverted back to 2-1 Phillies, and for the World Series crown to be awarded to them without playing 9 innings. It’s absurd. It’s nick picking. It’s taking yourself, the rules, and “baseball tradition” too seriously.
Joe Buck felt slighted and offended that Selig didn’t personally tell him that he would be suspending the game even if the score was 2-1. I guess Buck was gullible enough to believe the baseball fans all around the U.S. would gladly accept not finishing Game 5. What an idiot he is.
And it’s not just Buck- many other so-called journalists are focusing on Selig “re-writing the rules” without Union approval. Like the Union would have voted to revert the game back to the 2-1 Phillies score. Huh? Please. If you view Game 5 like long rain delay that lasted over a day, there is no rule change. The rule book doesn’t say when the rain delayed game has to be continued. Sine a World Series game is the most important game of the season, a rain delayed WS game should be delayed (or suspended) indefinitely.
Frankly, I hated when games would be reverted back. It was cheap and unfair. That’s why the 2007 rules reinstated suspended tie games.
Give Selig a break- he had no choice. Enough with the “he didn’t tell the MEDIA or teams”.
