Game 124: Yankees clobber Royals 15-6
Mike Mussina (16-7, 3.35) struggled a bit in the 1st two innings, but settled down, and retired the last 14 batters in row to continue his quest to win 20 games in one season for the 1st time (and enhance his Hall of Fame candidacy). He had 5K, no BB, and 3 runs over 6 innings. He could have gone more, but the Yankees offense came to life.
EVERYBODY did well in the lineup today. Some highlights include Jason Giambi’s grandslam, the Yanks batting around in the 1st inning, A-Rod’s clutch 3-run HR, Cody Ransom’s pinch-hit 2-run HR, Xavier Nady’s HR, Derek Jeter going 4-4, and Robinson Cano and Brett Gardner getting multiple hits.
Billy Traber allowed 1 run in 2 innings, and Chris Britton mopped up (2 runs in the 9th).
