Mets Owner Wilpon Regrets the Way Willie was Fired

New York Mets owner Fred Wilpon said he made a mistake in allowed GM Omar Minyana to fire Willie Randolph in California at 3:00AM.

“I know I screwed up. I should have said, `wait a second. I wasn’t smart enough to say, `you are going to cut the New York press out?’ I didn’t even think of it.’’

A month later after the Mets started winning makes this easier to say. And, history may absolve the Mets Front Office for firing Willie the way they did if the Mets have a good season or if Willie gets a successful job somewhere else, like Joe Torre did after the Cardinals fired him.

Always awesome when he’s on Letterman… man I hope he does one last tour with the Cardinals, minus Spacewolf; (RIP); maybe Catherine Popper could slot back in? That would be freaking genius….
