Game 85: Giambi slams Rangers 18-7

This was more like it: a slug fest between the Yankees and Texas Rangers in the Bronx, resulting in a 18-7 victory for the Yankees, who salvaged the last game of this series, heading into a 4-game July 4th holiday summer spectacular against the Red Sox.
This was a back and forth game until Jason Giambi’s grand slam. Sidney Ponson kept getting out of jams until the 5th, where it all caught up to him and fell apart all around him very quickly. He was charged with 7 runs, but thankfully Edwar Ramirez (2-0, 3.10) was the unsung hero, hurling 2 hitless innings. The LaTroy and Kyle Show mopped up the last two innings.
The Yanks got 16 hits, and everyone contributed, but especially Giambi, who got 6 RBI.
- In other Yankees news, A-Rod and his wife are apparently headed to SPLITSville.
- Andy Pettitte may get summoned to court in the Roger Clemens fiasco.
- Melky Cabrera (and to a lesser extent Robinson Cano, who is HOT again) is in hot water for his poor play being related to his off-field activities, and may be replaced by Brett Gardner, who seems more hungry and more aggressive on the basepaths.

Perhaps all of these new distractions will cause the Yankees to start focusing on winning more. Perhaps the hitters were too laid back and mechanical. Perhaps they need the MEDIA circuses to start hitting in the clutch. This 4-game series against the Boston Red Sox should be interesting.
