Shawn Chacon attacks Astros GM

Shawn Chacon made his General Manager TAP OUT!

Former Yankees one-hit wonder Shawn Chacon, upset after getting demoted to the bullpen, told the Houston Chronicle this problem began when Astros GM Ed Wade saw him in the dining room before a game. Wade wanted to meet with Chacon in manager Cecil Cooper‘s office.

“I sat down to eat and Ed Wade came to me and very sternly said, ‘You need to come with me to the office,”‘ Chacon said. “I said ‘for what?’ I said ‘I don’t want to go to the office with you and Cooper.’ And I said, ‘You can tell me whatever you got to tell me right here.’ He’s like, ‘Oh, you want me to tell you right here?’ And I said, ‘yeah.’ I’m not yelling. I’m calm.”

“He started yelling and cussing,” Chacon said of Wade. “I’m sitting there and I said to him very calmly, ‘Ed, you need to stop yelling at me. Then I stood up and said, ‘You better stop yelling at me.’ I stood up. He continued and was basically yelling.”

Chacon said that after Wade told him he needed to “look in the mirror,” it got worse.

“So at that point I lost my cool and I grabbed him by the neck and threw him to the ground. I jumped on top of him,” he said. “Words were exchanged.”

Considering that Ed Wade is buddies with all the other GM’s I won’t be surprised if Chacon’s will be blacklisted from baseball. As much as Shawn made the wrong decision to chock out his boss, I don’t blame him. I’m tired of snotty GM’s making antagonistic comments to players.

Jason, thanks for the 411 on O'Flaherty.

So, one hypothetical 08 bullpen could look like:

    Putz
    Soriano
    Sherill
    Lowe
    Fruto
    O'Flaherty

With other possibilities including Kahn, Cruceta and Nageotte. And there's always the possibility of Soriano, Lowe, Cruceta or (unlikely) Nageotte being in the rotation.

Plenty of nice bullpen candidates. I like that.

Higuera yields a double and Mason escapes two walks with a Cecil Cooper double play ball to end the 4th. Still 1-0 Rangers.

Because he honestly thought it was impossible to speed up. He had tried and failed. The GM was apparently always griping about the speed. I wouldnt be surprised if he gave me that task expecting me to fail so he could say *see, it can’t be done*. Like I said, the speed from my solution was to store everything in a json style format and to read it into memory with a 4k buffer with one read. Oh, forgot to mention. He didn’t allow the changes to stick. He ordered me to revert back to the original slow system. His reason?. Low level file access and recursion are too hard for other programmers to support. I was floored. I suppose he would like to be reminded or get on the GM’s good side. The GM liked tech but didn’t know anything about it so he was easy to bullshit to. Thing is, he had the GM’s ear and even though I completed everything they asked me to do, my contract was not renewed. Check out my other WTF story about the other *programmer* who got an extension.
