Game 82: Oliver Perez dominates Yankees (plus Season Series Recap)

June 29, 2008
By DailySkew

The Mets lefty Oliver Perez (6-5, 4.98) was too much for the Yankees today at Shea Stadium. Joe Girardi benched Cano, Giambi, and Abreu since they are left-handed, but it didn’t help. The only Yankees offense was a solo shot by Wilson Betemit, as the Mets won 3-1 to salvage the last game of this series.

Darrell Rasner (4-6, 4.42) preserved through 5 innings, and although not quite a Quality Start ™, he pitched well enough to win on most days.

Making his debut from Trenton was 23-year old David Robertson. He gave up 4 hits and 1 run in 2 innings.

Edwar Ramirez had a solid 9th inning.

Dan Giese was demoted to the bullpen, as Sidney Ponson has the #5 starter role for now.

I like Jorge Posada at 1B.

Transactions
Kei Igawa was sent back down to AAA after one day. (That’s embarrassing.)
David Robertson was called up.
