Seems like Andy Pettitte was mimicking the George Washington story of “I cannot tell a lie”.
Good ol’ Honest Andy.
This was Andy’s moment of truth. His reward for telling the truth behind closed doors (no thanks to the urging of his meddling wife and lawyers) was that he won’t have to publicly face Roger Clemens or deal with TV cameras and reporters during Roger’s big day. Andy avoided what would have been the worst day of his life.
Poor, poor Andy. What type of season will he have now, knowing that he sold his former friend out, because he was afraid.
Fear. A subtle, yet powerful, motivation.
Now, Andy is a martyr. He was “compelled” to “tell the truth” because of his morality (guilt and fear). The same morality that 1) caused him to use illegal substances; and 2) to initially lie about that use. Yes, apparently, Andy “cannot tell a lie” only under sworn testimony, not during other times. What kind of morality is that? Tell the truth under oath is the EASY way out. Lying for a friend is the harder morality to rationalize and justify.

Heck, it truly was a no-win situation scenario for Andy. If he lied, we’d be calling him a liar! But at least he’d be a loyal liar..the kind you admire. I know Jason Giambi didn’t turn anyone in when he spoke with Selig. But Andy- he always puts himself in tough jams. He usually gets out of jams, and he got out of this one, too, by giving up Clemens.
It’s very ironic that Jose Canseco actually backed up The Rocket in his sworn testimony:
“I have never had a conversation with Clemens in which he expressed any interest in using steroids or human growth hormone,” Canseco said in the affidavit. “Clemens has never asked me to give him steroids or human growth hormone, and I have never seen Clemens use, possess or ask for steroids or human growth hormone.”
“I have played on three teams with Roger Clemens and I have no reason to believe that he has ever used steroids, human growth hormone, or any other performance enhancing drugs.”
Now THAT’s the way to do it, Andy.
Roger Clemens is playing it off well, by saying his buddy has a foggy memory, and not acting angry at him. Roger Clemens is too cocky to believe that one man’s testimony can take him down.
Kinda like how Hitler was confident the Russian winter would have no affect on his troops.

It’s hard to accept the truth when lies are exactly what you want to hear.
I got 23,000 of beer/pizza money only from my job and im 17 and the average house value is about $200,000
I don't know about "the greates stoty ever toldm, but I know one with "the hardest story ever told". It's MIKA, "HAPPY ENDING".
And if that's the song, Mika is a man, but has an alto voice.
This is the way you left me,
I'm not pretending.
No hope, no love, no glory,
No Happy Ending.
This is the way that we love,
Like it's forever.
Then live the rest of our life,
But not together.
Wake up in the morning, stumble on my life
Can't get no love without sacrifice
If anything should happen, I guess I wish you well
A little bit of heaven, but a little bit of hell
This is the hardest story that I've ever told
No hope, or love, or glory
Happy endings gone forever more
I feel as if I'm wasted
And I'm wastin' every day
This is the way you left me,
I'm not pretending.
No hope, no love, no glory,
No Happy Ending.
This is the way that we love,
Like it's forever.
Then live the rest of our life,
But not together.
2 o'clock in the morning, something's on my mind
Can't get no rest; keep walkin' around
If I pretend that nothin' ever went wrong, I can get to my sleep
I can think that we just carried on
This is the hardest story that I've ever told
No hope, or love, or glory
Happy endings gone forever more
I feel as if I'm wasted
And I'm wastin' every day
This is the way you left me,
I'm not pretending.
No hope, no love, no glory,
No Happy Ending.
This is the way that we love,
Like it's forever.
Then live the rest of our life,
But not together.
A Little bit of love, little bit of love
Little bit of love, little bit of love[repeat]
I feel as if I'm wasted
And I waste everyday
This is the way you left me,
I'm not pretending.
No hope, no love, no glory,
No Happy Ending.
This is the way that we love,
Like it's forever.
To live the rest of our life,
But not together.
Hope it helps. Good Luck!
Who is to say that this situation for Roger Clemens could not end up the same way as the Duke LaCross team? I was shocked to see the public opinion poll on the SI website that showed 71% who responded felt that Roger Clemens had indeed abused steroids. Only 21% believed he was innocent.
I do not think he abused steroids and I think this McNamee person is suspect. How dare we convict someone without evidence. I am with you Jack I think it says a lot that Roger Clemens is willing to testify in front of congres WITHOUT immunity.
Happens all the time and the main reason is “It’s a small world” especially in P.town these two would have met up sooner or later had the scrap and gapped home it just so happens they did it in front of TV cameras. Theres a few hundred NZ vids on youtube now like this ae u just have to find out their names

Council of the Six, you have to keep in mind how hard it was for Andy to cover for Roger when Laura Pettitte has been pushing him to “be his own man” for a while now. Of course, she means “her man, only”. I’ve been getting reports for years how influential Laura is with Andy. It’s like she’s his earthly authority figure and official spokesperson for Jesus.
She wants Andy HOME, going to church, and being with their kids. With Andy’s lawyers, Senator Mitchell, congressmen, AND Laura all over Andy to tell The Truth, Andy was too weak to cover for Roger.
That being said:
I agree- a True Martyr takes 100% responsibility for his decisions- it’s almost a cockiness. He made the decision. He should have been strong enough to resist Brian McNamee and Roger Clemens’ bad habits. He should have pulled what Christina would pull if the IRS ever interviewed her about CEO’s creative books. Instead, Andy pulled a Mimic. Andy waited to the end to tell The Truth.
Compare Andy vs. his elder, wiser Earth-2 version- Joe Torre. NO CONTEST.
But, I do respect differences of opinion. I am willing to agree to disagree with those who say Andy should have told The Truth. HGH is really no big deal for me. It’s not like he was covering for murder or something similar.
Based on the new evidence presented by Skew, and further reflection by the members of this Council, we have decided to rescind our support for Andy Pettitte.
As Obi-Wan Kenobi and Barry Allen correctly pointed out during our meeting, a healthy six takes full responsibility for his actions WITHOUT implicating others in a situation like this. As Obi-Wan so aptly put: “If you play the martyr, you don’t bring your friends to be part of the sacrifice.”
We thank Skew for making a dignified argument here on this blog.
In related news, the Loyalist has been suspended from the Council for 30 days without pay for his erroneous take on the Andy Pettitte matter.
According to reports from people close to the situation, Andy Petite was stumbling over his words and stammering behind closed doors with the Congressional Committee. One committee aid said, “A good attorney would have picked Andy apart.”
The committee was afraid to bring him before cameras because he would not have appeared credible. So, Andy’s anxiety, and not his honesty, may have been his saving grace.
Peter Gammons, LMESPN.
Go ahead and leak that info here, baby.
HOW DO YOU OR ANYONE ELSE FOR THAT MATTER KNOW WHAT ANDY HAD SAID BEHIND CLOSED DOORS? I AM SORRY BUT
I CANNOT EVEN FATHOM ANDY BEING A
TRUTH TELLER JUST TO GET HIMSELF OFF THE HOOK. NOT WHEN I LOOK AT THE MANY PHOTOS OF ROGER AND ANDY, RUNNING AND TALKING INTENSELY TO ONE ANOTHER WHILE STANDING NEXT TO ONE ANOTHER AND WATCHING THE BALL GAME THEY BOTH DEVOTED THEIR LIVES TO! I GUESS I MAY KNOW WHAT REALLY WENT DOWN WHEN IT IS WRITTEN IN THE PAPER(SOMEONE LEAKED) OR WHEN ANDY WRITES HIS BOOK IN A FEW YEARS OR LESS.
I support “forgetfulness” if it’s a victimless crime to help a friend who is being targeted in a witch hunt.
So you’d support lying under oath?
Again, I’m playing Devil’s Advocate, and I admitted, Andy would have been ripped either way.
And, I repeat, Andy is officially a liar, or at least someone who has a tendency to “forget”. Run a search to read about him denying HGH use until the Mitchell Report was published.
All he did was tell the truth, and you fry him for that?
Ken, you DO realize that HGH/steroids is not murder?
You’re acting like the universe would collapse if Andy “forgot”.
Andy and Roger made an unspoken deal together to use HGH and work out together, and to keep things private.
Andy wanted in on HGH, and he got in.
I’m just sayin’.
I don’t think Andy’s testimony was damaging. He probably said that he and Roger spoke about steroids and HGH, but never shot each other up, or even witnessed a shoot-up.
I don’t think he’s a rat, per se.
I don’t think he should have pretended to “forget” or out-and-out lie and read a Canseco-like statement.
I am 100% sure that no one can PROVE Andy and Roger spoke about HGH besides McNamee, who is a known liar.
Andy would not have gone to prison. He got scared, and took the easy way out.
That’s fine.
It’s not my place to judge, he can explain this to his Judge when that day comes.
So you wanted Andy to risk GOING to prison for lying to protect a scumbag like ROGER CLEMENS?
Just wanted to make a disclaimer: Andy is going to get ripped either way, and he shouldn’t have put himself in this situation anyway.
I still like him and hope he does well, and I do sympathize with him.
I know Andy did not attack Roger behind closed doors, he just “told the truth” even though he could have eased up the pressure on his partner in crime by just “forgetting”.
It’s amazing the things Type 6′s remember. And I know the Council of Sixes fully agrees with Andy telling the truth, “no more, no less”. My issue is- who, or what, is Andy loyal too?
Because he originally LIED when asked about this HGH situation, and ONLY when the going got tough did he cave in, and embraced “the truth”.
