2007 DMB League Championship Series
American League
Oakland Athletics vs New York Yankees
When my family and I witnessed the Yankees losing the Divisional Series last year, we commented about how the pitching veterans on the team were put in more high leverage situations, than the youngsters (Hughes, Kennedy, relief pitchers). So, my starting pitching staff looked a bit different than Joe Torre’s. Here was mine: Wang, Clemens, Hughes, Pettitte- good enough for the sweep 4 games to 0. Notice Mike Mussina is not there, replaced by Hughes, and Andy Pettitte was 4th, another impossibility last year. Anyway, I used Ian Kennedy in excellent middle relief, and Joba and Mo shut things down. There were 2 extra inning games, so I relied upon two men Joe Torre didn’t like using: Chris Britton and Ross Ohlendorf, instead of trying to give too much responsibility to Kyle Farnsworth, Mussina, or even Luis Vizcaino.
As far as the hitting- A-Rod, Jorge, Shelley, and the rest did just fine in clutch situations.
National League
San Diego Padres vs Colorado Yankees
The Rockies easily swept the Padres, solidifying themselves as the best team in the National League in DMB and in real-life. Congratulations to the 2007 Colorado Yankees for NOT being a fluke team, like the 1998 Dodgers and 2003 Marlins.
